Great Movie Cameos – Hitchcock,Tyson and Murray
Cameo appearances have been some of Hollywood's best kept secrets, with a list of stars appearing in films you'd never imagine them to. Famously, a number of major movie stars, directors and producers have all appeared within some movies, either playing a fictionalised version of themselves, or the characters they are all too well known for playing.
Whilst some cameos have entered Hollywood history for their iconic status, some others have been so subtle they have been all too easy to miss. Usually relegated to a line of independent cult movies, cameos have now become one of many selling points that attract audiences to see movies in cinemas, with film news sources speculating who will be the next big cameo star. Taking a look at cameos of movies gone by, it's clear to see who the best small roles have belonged to.
Alfred Hitchcock
No movie cameo could out do the efforts of Alfred Hitchcock. The movie director was famously known to carry out "blink and you'll miss it" cameos within 37 of the movies he created. His cameos became so much of a phenomenon, he decided to make many of his appearances at the start of his movies, so as not to distract audiences who were looking out for him from the plot.
Mike Tyson
Film reviewers hail the boxing legend's appearance in slacker comedy The Hangover as one that will be remembered for years to come. In a seemingly unexpected appearance, the hung-over heroes encounter the boxer when attempting to negotiate with him after having drunkenly stolen his tiger. Putting his glass-shatteringly bad singing aside, Tyson's appearance in the movie is definitely one of the most random cameos within the last few years.
Bill Murray
Famously known for being one of the Ghostbusting quartet, Bill Murray has been a fixture of a number of small-budget Hollywood hits, and his appearance in 2009's Zombieland is one you should make sure not to miss. Appearing in zombified make up, his onscreen persona admits to putting on the make-up simply to be able to get out the house. Ultimately, he is unintentionally killed after being mistaken for a zombie by one of the lead characters.
With news of a sequel to The Hangover, and the hope of a reprised cameo from Mike Tyson, 2011 looks set to be the year of the cameo.
